My post below about being uncool is based upon the number of iPods I see today.
When I wear my gadgets and devices I hide them or use just one or two at a time. There have been occasions when I’ve “spread out” and taken up an entire bench. At any one time I may have my MSN Direct watch, palm pilot, DS, PSP, GPS, memory cards, and cell phone on me…and you wouldn’t be able to tell that I have them all.
So I must question the visibility of the iPod these days. It’s being worn as a fashion accessory in a “me too” fashion that detracts from its statement about being unique (isn’t that what the ads are about?).
Rather the majority if just copying each other and intruding upon the culture that us geeks hold precious. As you enter you will find that things you own are worth less in the eyes of others. You displaying your iPod is simply more likely to get damaged and shows disregard for the device itself…what’s the point of taking it jogging when you have to slow down to a walk so you can show it off and not damage it. Just conceal it and you can jog.
So that’s why I wrote the rant, once the crowd sees something cool everybody gets it and realizes that nobody is cool anymore.
Do it for the function rather than the looks.
