Jepson has taken the lead in the polls and I think it’ll continue to grow late into the week. Here’s how the polls work:
You vote
Your IP gets recorded
A cookie gets placed in your browser
When you visit again, the page looks for the cookie.
If the cookie is found then the poll results are shown.
If the cookie is not found then the IP address is checked.
If the IP address is not found then the poll is shown, otherwise the results are shown.
Now…the IP is placed in a database and it expires over time (10 – 20 minutes).
So how is Jepson getting all these votes? He is visiting each server in the Math environment (bacon, rees, magnus…so on) and then voting from there. So he’s voting for himself every x minutes A LOT of times.
Now the cats out of the bag, I think the others can catch up pretty quickly.
